Win a Copy of the 4-Hour Sleep Week

Virgin Blogger Notes is all about first steps, and today I’m excited to announce the first ever contest here on the blog.

I want to give you a free copy of “The 4-Hour Sleep Week”, the just-released ebook from Keith Bloemendaal over at Hot Blog Tips.

In The 4-Hour Sleep Week you’ll learn how Keith went from being unemployed to being a successful internet marketer. In addition to writing about the sacrifices he made and the actions he took to get where he’s at today, Keith shares stories and insights from other professional bloggers like Darren Rowse, James Richmond, David Risley, and others who have grown successful online businesses through hard work and commitment.

For more information on the book, check out this video on Keith’s spiffy sales page.

Since this is the first ever contest on the blog and the first time some of you have ever entered a contest on a blog, I want to keep this simple.

Here’s all you need to do to enter:

  1. Sign up for the Virgin Blogger Notes newsletter by entering your email address in the blue form on the right sidebar. When you’ve done that, or if you’ve signed up in the past, move to Step 2.
  2. Leave a comment telling me one thing you’d like me to write about or include in the newsletter. If you’re stuck for ideas, it might be something like info. on other contests, productivity tips, traffic building ideas, links to free resources, social media, monetizing options, reader questions, etc.

And that’s it!

I’ll keep the contest open all this week and over the weekend, so that means entries will be accepted through Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. CST.

The winner will be picked at random by an independent party and will be announced on the blog early next week.

Good luck everyone!

I'd like to see some tips on keeping up with a steady stream on content- do you post on a schedule, or whenever you strike the urge? Write ahead of time so you have backup posts?

Any tips on writing so that it's “bloggy” and less like an essay. Mine always end up being a bit too long I think!

    Hi Jean,

So excited for your first contest! I think that it would be great to include some of the following in your newsletter:

    Your Favorite…
Tools: Apps, Plugins, Programs, even things you may write on scratch paper.
Bloggers: Who inspires you, makes you think, or annoys you so much you never want to be like them.
    Places for Inspiration

I look forward to reading :)

    Hi Jean!
I've joined your list and I'd love to take a look at Keith's new book, so add me to the pot! :)
I'd love to read about interesting contests, links to great sites and social media tips and other information. I'm sure whatever you create will be awesome!

  4. virginbloggernotes May 10, 2010 at 1:49 pm #

Thanks for your input, Kiesha, and good luck!

  5. virginbloggernotes May 10, 2010 at 1:50 pm #

Great ideas, Jessica. Good luck to you!

  6. virginbloggernotes May 10, 2010 at 1:55 pm #

Thanks for your input, Ryan. Writing good content is huge for most people, so I”ll be sure to include tips and links on that. Also, Kiesha at WeBlogBetter is going to be doing a series on writing great content so if you're not subscribed to her blog, you might want to consider that so you don't miss it. Good luck on the contest!

I signed up too. I'd like to see some tips on creating videos, motivational ideas, how you come up with topics.

  8. Keith Bloemendaal May 10, 2010 at 2:33 pm #

I like to break longer posts into a series of posts, maybe two or three parts. It really helps to keep readers coming back for the next part, and you can interlink them all together which is also good for SEO with proper anchor texted links.

  9. Keith Bloemendaal May 10, 2010 at 2:35 pm #

I am glad you enjoyed the book Jean! Just tweeted out the contest for you, and will do so again later!

  10. virginbloggernotes May 10, 2010 at 2:58 pm #

Good ideas, Mike. You should see the pile of information I have from some of the top bloggers doing video. Maybe sharing some of those tips will actually motivate me to start doing video?!?! Oh wait, that's where the motivation tips will come in :) Good luck in the contest!

Thanks, Keith, I appreciate it. You've done a great job of sharing your story in a way that anyone can relate to. No fluff or hype – just common sense steps that yield real results.

Hi! After finding you and your responses on A-List Blogger forums (thank you so much for your help!) I have followed your blog. It is wonderfully insightful for a very very new blogger like myself. One thing I would like to read more about is how to identify an audience and what types of blog posts certain audiences might be more appropriate for…and what that might mean for the future of your blog. (Loaded question, huh?) For example, an all photo blog may be less focused on providing a hard and fast service and may somehow be less able to make money for the blogger??? As you can see, I am new to this with lots of swirling, crazy questions. Thank you for your time!

    Hi Jean,

I'd love to read Keith's book. As far as ideas for this blog, I'd love to see a series on “pillar content”. I'm new to your blog, so I don't know if you've already created something along these lines. (I also can't find a link to your archives, is there one?)

  14. virginbloggernotes May 10, 2010 at 3:52 pm #

Hi Kayla. There are no crazy questions and we call come to blogging with different levels of knowledge. Which in my case, was definitely not much :) I definitely can cover tips and/or provide links on choosing a target market, knowing your reader, and researching profit potential. I'm also in the process of setting up a dedicated page here on the blog with links to things both on and off the blog that take beginners through the planning and set-up process. Good luck to you with the contest!

  15. virginbloggernotes May 10, 2010 at 3:59 pm #

Hi Jillian. Good idea on the pillar content series, and thank you for mentioning the lack of an archives link. I'll take care of that today. Good luck on the contest!

  16. thewahwife May 10, 2010 at 6:23 pm #

I'm an information junkie, Jean. The more free tools and info you can pass on, the better!

  17. Ms. Freeman May 10, 2010 at 6:51 pm #

That's an awesome idea for a book, everyone is chasing the shorter week, when really it takes a longer week to get where we want.

  18. virginbloggernotes May 10, 2010 at 7:18 pm #

One of these days they'll probably start a 12-step program for information junkies :) I'll work on giving you a regular fix – drop me a note if there does end up being something specific you want more info. about. Good luck in the contest.

  19. Gurl May 10, 2010 at 8:30 pm #

When you get that 12 step going, give me a buzz plx! Great contest…the book is pretty awesome and will make you think. Good luck to everyone entering :)

Keith has a great way of telling it like it is in the book, on his blog, and in his web cast. I really respect that. If someone wants to hear how making a living online is a walk in the park, they'll get a might quick wake up call if they hang around Keith for more than a minute.

  21. virginbloggernotes May 10, 2010 at 10:41 pm #

Maybe we can do a joint venture for a support group membership site :) Nice “seeing” you on Keith's webcast this weekend. It was my first time on and I plan to pop in again whenever the schedule allows.

  22. Gurl May 11, 2010 at 1:38 am #

LOL hrm…But the we'd just be supplying MORE information and enabling the habit..sounds like fun! 😉 It was good to see you there as well. I have to limit how often I show up, unless I am somewhere with wifi. I am glad he records them and one can watch later, though :) Take care, catch you around the interwebs I am sure!

  23. matthewneedham May 11, 2010 at 3:54 pm #

Excellent idea here Jean, I really hope you grow your email list massively! How about what to include in a newsletter. ie what rocks and what doesn't…. what builds loyal fans and what turns them off quicker than a tap….

  24. virginbloggernotes May 11, 2010 at 4:29 pm #

I love that “turns them off quicker than a tap,” statement. I might just have to borrow that one :) As these great ideas come rolling in for newsletter content I'm beginning to feel like a bit of a cheat. It's almost like you guys are writing future newsletters for me. Not that I'm complaining :)

  25. Kaizenvision May 11, 2010 at 9:32 pm #

Sounds like a great book!!! What I'd love to read about would be building loyal readers and (2) time management for bloggers I often get lost trying to divide my time between learning technology, learning about blogging, writing …and all the other aspects – I'm attempting to sort it out but, not sure that I'm coming up with any great system

  26. virginbloggernotes May 11, 2010 at 10:19 pm #

Thanks for the suggestions – those are topics we can never learn too much about. I've been in the same place you are with the feeling of trying to do it all. It's unreal how much there is to learn, plus sometimes writing or technical things end up taking longer than we planned. I should write about that soon because that's a big issue. Wishing you luck on the contest!

  27. mark May 12, 2010 at 2:16 am #

    Hi Jean,

This is a great idea for a contest & apparently a great way to attract commentators! I would like to see you write about what motivates you – why do you blog, how it differs from your past jobs, & what you expect to achieve by blogging. Also, I know that you are working on a book – what about telling your readers something about that process?

    Have a great day!

  28. virginbloggernotes May 12, 2010 at 12:08 pm #

Thanks for all those good (and fun!) writing ideas, Mark. Those are the same things I like to read about when it comes to other bloggers/writers. I'm fascinated by how others think, what drives them, what works and doesn't work, etc. Good luck on the contest!

  29. Janis Bennett May 12, 2010 at 12:23 pm #

Hi! What a great give-a-way! I've never been to your site before, so it is proof that having a contest can get you new visitors! :) I'm pretty new to blogging and some of this stuff is going right over my head. (http://freelancewriterroad.com) It would be great if you had a section for new bloggers to immediately go and get the basics… what someone MUST have or MUST do when getting a new blog going.

  30. virginbloggernotes May 12, 2010 at 2:09 pm #

Welcome, Janis, and good luck! I've been thinking about doing that very thing for brand-new beginners, so your suggestion is good motivation for me to get going on that. I'm also going to add a section/page that has definitions for blogging/web terms because that stuff was like Greek to me when I started out. Some of it still is :)

  31. custom-web-design May 27, 2010 at 7:40 am #

nice…….so i can get it free….:) that is really tempting me to subscribe
