The Lazy Person’s Guide to Blog Stats

By Mary Jaksch

Do you sometimes feel discouraged about blogging? If so, don’t worry – everyone does at times.

Here is a simple tool that will help you to keep up your motivation. And that will make you a better blogger. It’s a simple stats program, called WordPress.com Stats.

There are many other stats programs that give you a heap of information. But you’ve got to really study them in order to understand how they work. The simple stats program I want to introduce you to is easy to use. It gives you just the right amount of information.

It’s easy to install. Not problem at all … until it asks for the API key. That stops most bloggers in their tracks: where oh where do they stash this elusive creature, called API key?

Watch the video below to find out exactly how to find the API key and how to use this great plugin.

What’s your experience with stats?

I really like the WordPress stats, they are so simple and easy to understand. If I can’t sleep I go and look at my google analytics… lovely video :)

Mary, you provide such valuable information, I can tell you take time to research and share. I have WordPress stats on my main blog but it was put in by a VA. I have been curious about API# because I have another blog and “Askimet” requested the API number. I just ignored it. Now, I can back and add that number and get rid of all those spam comments.

    Thank you.

I have used this plugin but wasn’t really satisfied with it. It says it doesn’t count your own visits but at times I could see it is counting them.
I just think it didn’t give me the right data (not that I had some great traffic, but just knew what to expect).
The worst thing was that I messed up my Google analytics and I could not compare the stats :)
Finally I just uninstalled the plugin and fixed Analytics.
I am just not techie enough to take care of things like that :)

P.S. This is the first day I ran into your blog, it seems really interesting, just wanted to say Nice to find you, in my first comment.

Hi Mary! I haven’t really messed up with stats yet. Maybe it’s about time I figured this out. I keep thinking that it’ll be another blog chore to add to my list but I can see that it would be helpful.
Thanks for the great tip. Loving blessings!

    Hello Mary, nice read.

Google Analytics is the best thing out there, every real blogger must learn to use and get the best of it.
